I grew up moving around the United States and, at times, around the world. When anyone asks where home is for me, though, the answer is Seattle, Washington. I attended the University of Washington to study history and secondary social studies education. While living in the city, I met my future wife and started my career in education.
We left Seattle for the San Francisco Bay Area. During our four years in the Bay, I taught social studies and English to middle and high school students. These teaching experiences combined with ongoing professional education inspired me to return to graduate school at the University of Virginia. After earning my doctorate degree in the history of education, I landed a position at the University of Utah as an assistant professor in the history of US education.
In my personal life, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters, hiking and running outside, reading fiction, and following the ups and downs of the Seattle sports scene.
